RAPID ACTION AFTER SCHOOL SMASH

Charlotte Barnes, Shropshire Councillor for Bishops Castle, has called for additional traffic safety measures outside Norbury Primary School after an accident last week.

Charlotte said “Norbury School is outside the village and does not have any form of speed limit on the road immediately outside. As a result we have had a number of incidents over the years culminating in a crash last week when two vehicles we hit by a third.

“I had flashing ‘slow down’ signs put in some time ago but this is clearly insufficient.

“I persuaded Officers from the Highways Department to come out here for a site visit within 24 hours of the crash. They have agreed to repair the sign that wasn’t working and are considering my plea for more signs. We need to drive home the message that this a school and people need to take care when driving past.
Red Tape
“On a broader issue though, we need to cut through all the red tape that surrounds getting speed limits altered around schools and villages. Its time to scrap the intricate and expensive legal orders around speed limits and let communities deicide what is best for where they live.”
