MASSIVE DROP IN HOUSING LIST Families Registered drop from 7,000 to 2,000

Charlotte Barnes, Lib Dem Councillor for Bishops Castle, has urged local residents who are in need of housing to reregister on the housing waiting list following a review by Shropshire Council which has seen a drop a 5,000 of those registered.
Charlotte said “The Council effectively deleted everyone from the housing waiting list and asked them to re-apply. The result is that these re-applications have been trickling in at a time when new developments of affordable homes are being built in for the first time in years. In Bishops Castle we have a new estate being built at Castle Green which should be ready in the next few months. At the same time I know of a number of families in the town who are in dire need of accommodation, some of which have not re-applied.
“I really would urge everyone who are looking for a new affordable home to reapply as soon as possible, otherwise they will stand no chance of securing one of these homes. If you are not on the housing list you cannot bid for these houses.”
Bishops Castle has been waiting for these houses for some while. Some of them were meant to be on the Wintles and this site was due to start in May 2012.
