Letter to the press on energy grants

by charlottebarnes on 14 July, 2014

Dear Sir,

Last month the Government introduced the ‘Green Deal Home Improvement Scheme’.
Under this imitative Householders can claim money (up to £7600) from the government on energy-saving improvements such as insulation, draught-proofing and double-glazing. But when it comes to heating, only natural gas boilers requiring replacement are included in the scheme – most residents of rural Shropshire live away from natural gas mains are dependent on oil or LPG systems.
The government has yet again chosen to punish people who live in the countryside. Rural residents have been overlooked by every scheme that has been introduced to supposedly help people make their households more energy efficient.
People living in the Westminster village need to come out once in a while to take a reality check on the way the rest of us are living.

Yours sincerely,

Charlotte Barnes
Shropshire Councillor for Bishops Castle Division,
Linley Cottage,
Norbury SY9 5DX
