Bishops Castle residents are celebrating the decision by Shropshire Council’s Planning Committee to turn down an application to build 9 houses on Woodbatch Road in the town.
The proposal had attracted considerable criticism because of the restricted access to the proposed site via Kerry Lane. Twice a day this road is congested with

Charlotte Barnes,said at the hearing: “Nobody is happy with the proposed road alterations. I think it’s the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard. It doesn’t take into account access to get into the road in the first place – there are some places on Kerry Lane that two cars can’t pass. As it is the lane gets congested twice a day with school traffic add construction traffic and its a recipe for mayhem.

“The town is not adverse to development. The Town Council has pointed out a number of potential sites in the North of the town where the infrastructure is better suited.”

The Committee also heard from Cllr Jackson of Bishops Castle Town Council who pointed out that the proposal breached the National Planning Policy Framework.

They decided to reject the proposal unanimously.
